A summary of events on Tuesday, June 1, Day 42 of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that began with the April 20
explosion and fire on the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, owned by Transocean Ltd. and leased by BP PLC,
which is in charge of cleanup and containment. The blast killed 11 workers. Since then, oil has been pouring
into the Gulf from a blown-out undersea well at a rate of at least 210,000 gallons per day.

Scientists: Oil leaking up to 2.52M gallons daily

June 03, 2010 — A detailed computer modeling study released today indicates that oil from the massive
spill in the Gulf of Mexico might soon extend along thousands of miles of the Atlantic coast and open
ocean as early as this summer. The modeling results are captured in a series of dramatic animations produced
by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and collaborators. The full article
